They can do maths.
They just need more from it.
Maths Club is for students who have sound mathematical foundations and are ready to be stretched beyond routine classroom work.
They’re coasting
They complete the work but rarely encounter mathematics that genuinely makes them stop, think and explore.
They’re losing interest
Maths is beginning to feel repetitive, procedural or simply boring.
They’re ready for more
They enjoy puzzles, patterns, strategy and finding out why mathematics works.
This isn’t just tutoring.
Maths Club is not simply a place to finish homework or race through next year’s textbook.
Students investigate, test ideas, notice patterns, make connections, explain their reasoning and become increasingly comfortable tackling unfamiliar mathematical problems.
Strong mathematical thinkers
- Mathematical reasoning
- Number sense
- Conceptual understanding
- Problem-solving strategies
- Flexible thinking
- Mathematical communication
- Persistence
- Confidence with unfamiliar problems
What do students actually do?
Puzzles & challenges
Problems where students need to notice, reason, test and adapt.
Rich investigations
Tasks with room for different strategies, representations, approaches and solutions.
Games & strategy
Mathematical games that develop prediction, reasoning, strategic thinking and fluency.
Students don’t need to be the fastest in the room.
They do need sufficient foundational mathematical skills to participate confidently in a small-group environment.
Maths Club is designed for students who are ready to engage with richer mathematical ideas rather than requiring intensive remedial support.
