About

What is Maths Club?

Maths Club is an after-school program that builds strong foundations in mathematics before students transition into secondary school.

It focuses on real understanding—not just getting answers.

Students learn to:

  • reason
  • explain their thinking
  • make connections between ideas

This is what allows them to move confidently into more complex mathematics later on.

Who is it for?

Maths Club is designed for primary-aged students at all stages.

  • Ahead but bored
They are challenged with deeper, more meaningful problems.
  • Behind, unsure or lacking confidence
They rebuild understanding in a way that actually makes sense.
  • Doing “fine” but relying on procedures
They develop the thinking that prevents gaps from forming later.

Every student engages in work that is purposeful, appropriately challenging, and worth thinking about.

Why it matters

By the time students reach secondary school, mathematics becomes:

  • more abstract
  • more connected
  • less forgiving of gaps

Students with strong foundations can engage and keep up.

Mathematics trains the mind to think logically, weigh evidence, and make sense of complexity—skills that extend beyond the classroom into science, technology, and everyday life.

Students without strong foundations often begin to fall behind—not because they aren’t capable, but because the groundwork was never properly built.

Maths Club exists to ensure that groundwork is in place.

The goal

To set students up properly before high school—so they can engage, keep up, and move forward with confidence.

How it’s different

Maths Club is designed and led by a mathematics education specialist and grounded in educational research.

It complements the work of schools by providing a focused space for developing mathematical thinking with depth and precision.
